Welcome to WeirdCo

It’s frustrating that the value of trading cards are often reduced to viral headlines about shiny cardboard fetching sky-high prices, when the true magic is in the people who enjoy them. We’re talking about the kids who grew up playing cards on their friend’s bedroom carpet at sleepless sleepovers; the competitors who spent countless late nights practicing at the local games store, and after 8 hours of Swiss, just narrowly missed top cut due to a bogus tie-breaker; the strangers who met playing trading card games and ended up developing lifelong friendships.

Weird Co was founded for the deep human connection that TCGs create. Our goal is to build a community with soul, that fosters the magic of trading cards that we grew up with. If even just two people become friends with one of our games in their hands, then we’re a success.

WeirdCo’s Origins

This is a story that starts with passion for TCGs and a dream to build connection. Co-founders Elliot Cook and Luohan Wei bonded over trading cards when they first met through mutual friend and mentor (now advisor to Weird Co!) Bill Mooney. Both Elliot and Luohan had worked in gaming at some of the largest companies, but shared a frustration: most games felt designed to trap players in loops, encouraging isolation and addiction instead of connecting players as humans. The trading card games they loved felt like the natural cure to this isolation, as a way for folks to play the kinds of competitive games they enjoy while being part of a local community.

The two spent tireless hours on the phone (apologies to their wives) talking about how to make a company that real TCG players could relate to. Where the co-founders felt like members of the community, and the community had a real say. Where games could more than just entertain. Where creativity and collaboration matter more than points and metrics.

Those conversations were the seeds of Weird Co. The beginning of making games to last, not scroll past. Of creating experiences that feel alive, human-first, and a little bit weird. That’s why we promise to have no AI in our games, ever– no compromise. WeirdCo exists for players who want to feel, create, and connect. For games that remind us what it means to be human.

Even now, every day at Weird Co is an experiment; a chance to ask, “how weird can we get, and still make it meaningful?” Because if the world is full of ordinary games, someone has to make something for the weird ones.

Let’s Build a Community

This is an open invitation to join us. At the end of the day, the games we build literally can’t exist without a community to play them; player enthusiasm is what keeps a TCG alive and relevant. So we want to lay the foundation for a strong, fun, and welcoming community now, in hopes that you and the friends you make at the table will allow us to keep creating games for years to come.

This is but a first of many letters we’re writing to you. We can’t wait to introduce what we’ve been working on, and we’re even more excited to get to know you and build our TCG community together.

Happy gaming!

– The Weird Crew.
